Tennis: Hosts Dominate at St.Mary's Invitational!

St Mary’s Invitational Tennis Festival

smThe South African Wheelchair Tennis Players opened the St Mary’s Tennis Festival on Friday.  The rain stayed away for the entire weekend and the tennis was of a very high standard.

Eight teams participated in the event:  Oranje Meisiesskool, St Mary’s, Waverley, St Mary’s Kloof, St Andrew’s School, Menlopark Hoerskool, Somerset College, Northcliff High and Pretoria High School for Girls.
Each tie consists of four singles matches and two doubles matches.

The team consisting of Alison Sanders, Lyndsay Faure, Imaan Hassim, Katherine Rohde and Kristal Klingenberg from St Mary’s Waverley, defended the title they won last year and beat Northcliff in a very tightly contested final.On the road to the final St Mary’s, Waverley beat Oranje Meisiesskool , Somerset College Menlopark and St Andrew’s.  St Mary’s won three of the four singles matches with Alison Sanders winning a brilliant match against the No.1 from Northcliff. St Mary’s lost both doubles matches.

Final Standings:

•    2. Northcliff
•    3 St Andrews School
•    4. Meisiesskool Oranje
•    5. St Mary’s Kloof
•    6. Pretoria High School for Girls
•    7. Menlopark
•    8. Somerset College

 The St Mary’s B and C Tennis Teams  also dominated the B Interhigh Tennis Tournament. The B team won their section at St Stithians beating St Peter’s, St Stithians, Fourways and Redhill. The C Team won their section at St Andrews beating St Andrew’s, Holy Rosary, HeronBridge and Dainfern.  In the final both St Mary’s teams beat Helpmekaar and Roedean with the C Team emerging victorious by 2 games.
