A stunning 2-1 victory by Selborne College over Grey High School has put them in to second spot on the rankings and they will be ruing their one loss of the season to Queen’s that may have robbed them of a chance to finish as SA’s top school side.

Hockey: The SA School's Top 45 Rankings

St. John’s College put on one of their finest displays over the weekend to record a solid although hard fought for victory over Pretoria Boy’s High to edge ever nearer to a Top 10 finish.

PBHS who have recorded some memorable wins this year would have been hoping to put one over their Johannesburg rivals but St. John’s who have now won their last 13 games managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile Northwood who have risen to new heights this year came up against Kearsney College in the KZN Night Series Final and were forced to see the match slip away during penalty flicks that were left to decide the victor. The brilliant keeping by Kearsney’s goalie Middelton gave the Botha’s Hill team a nailbiting victory.

Selborne were not in action this past week but they have tough programme awaiting them next term and it remains to be seen whether the top teams will be able to hold on to their positions as the seasons winds down.

In one of the biggest matches of the year Pretoria Boy’s High will take on St. John’s College in the “Battle of the Jukskei” and it promises to live up to its billing.

Pretoria Boy’s who are currently the top side in Pretoria, have a side that is bursting with talent and have become a dangerous outfit under the guidance of coach Colin Fielding. Boasting no fewer than seven Northerns U18A players in their side along with another four who were selected for the Northerns U18B side, PBHS are a very difficult opponent who have already been able to hold the likes of Northwood to a draw and brushed aside Maritzburg College earlier this season.

However St. John’s College will be going into this match with confidence knowing that they have not lost a match in their last 11 outings and have amassed a massive 67 goals this season at an average of nearly three goals per match. They are perhaps the form team in Johannesburg this year and they will be fighting hard to prove they deserve a place amongst the top 10 which a win would almost surely secure.

Hockey: The SA School's Rankings

The top five all recorded wins over the weekend which ensured that their positions didn’t change and it is a pity that the much anticipated Kearsney v Maritzburg College had to be cancelled due to a flu epidemic.

Please note that two outstanding results for Pretoria Boy’s High have been included which had a small bearing on this week’s rankings. This weekend there is the big “Battle of the Jukskei” when Pretoria Boy’s meet St. John’s College which will give both teams a chance to move up the table.
