Soccer: SA Schools Shootout

SA Schools Shootout announces exciting All-Star Team program as Final weekend looms.

soccerThe SA Schools Shootout wraps up this weekend with what is sure to be an explosive finale – with an added twist. Paballelo High School, Rietvale High School (both Northern Cape), Benny’s Sports Development and Academy (Limpopo) and Mohloli High School (Gauteng) will contest the Semi-Finals on Friday 30 March, with the Final on Saturday 31st – all live on SuperSport 4.

On top of the chance to claim the inaugural SA Schools Shootout title, players who have participated in the tournament stand a chance to be selected for the All-Stars Team. The top 18 players of the tournament will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to work with top coaches and train with PSL & First Division clubs in their areas.

The decision was made by the tournament stakeholders, in consultation with SASFA President Mandla Mazibuko, based on the incredible talent displayed thus far. A selection panel, led by Godfrey Mosoetsa of SuperSport United, will select the 18 players who have stood out over the course of the tournament, with the team announced at the Finals of the SA Schools Shootout on 31 March.

These 18 talented youngsters will participate in a program that will harness their talents and set them up for a shot at the stage that their skills deserve. The program will include:

  • Training sessions under the guidance of a top PSL coach.
  • Training opportunities with PSL/First Division clubs in their respective regions where the selected boys reside.
  • Matches against PSL reserve league teams/ first division teams.
  • Opportunities for qualifying boys to be absorbed into existing academies.

Nozipho Xulu Mabumo, Director: Safety, Enrichment and Sport in Education at the Department of Basic Education says the Department will throw its full support behind the All-Stars team program. “This is a brilliant idea - it will ensure wider opportunities for talented learners and entrench the school league program,” she says.
