U15 Rugby: The SA Schools Top 80 Rankings

Boishaai make their move into the top three of the U15 Powerade Performance Rankings for the first time after successfully shutting out Boland Landbou in a powerful display over the weekend.

u15 RUGBY RANKINGS 2014

Paul Roos Gym are also moving in the right direction after their thumping of Wynberg and now find themselves well placed in the top five after going seven matches without loss.

However it is still Helpmekaar who sit on top of the standings although their lead has shrunk slightly with Affies and Paarl Boy’s High poised to overtake them should they lose their unbeaten status at any time.

We have received plenty of outstanding results which have made some impact on the rankings so please keep sending them through to us along with any thoughts on the rankings to This email address is being protected from spambots. How are the rankings worked out?

The rankings are generally based on the current form of the teams. So a team’s historical strength is not taken into account but rather how they are performing during this particular season. Having said that we do rely on how the various team’s finished during the previous season to “seed” a team.

In essence the rankings are worked out as follows:

  • Each team is seeded at the start of the season based on where they finished in the rankings the previous year. A seeding of 10 would be for the top teams, then 9 for those just under them, then 8 etc...
  • The seeding of the teams is vital so that wins against weaker teams or teams that have been seeded lower can be graded to reflect that a win was achieved against a weaker team. For example if Team A is seeded a 10 and they beat Team B who is seeded 5 then that victory would need to be graded. A victory against a weaker team cannot receive the same rewards as a win against a stronger or equally seeded team.
  • Bonus points are awarded for several factors: Bonus point are accumulated for the actual points scored on the field, for the actual results (win or draw) and for the margin of victory.
  • These bonus points are accumulated and divided by the amount of matches play to give you and average (which is what you see on the right hand side of the table). This average is what ultimately is ranking the teams.

Hope this helps to understand the rankings.
