Rugby: Ex Springbok Braam van Straten to coach Saints

In the never ending quest to produce a competitive rugby ethos many schools have turned their attention to procuring the services of a professional coach or specialist to help bolster their fortunes in the sport.

St. Charles College are one of those teams and they have been able to acquire the services of former Springbok Braam van Straaten who has now joined the Saints teams as their Rugby Specialist.

This is a full time appointment with Braam starting his work to rejunenate St Charles College rugby riches with immediate effect.

In Braam, St. Charles have managed to procure a specialist who has a tremendous amount of experience to offer that comes from 21 caps for the Springboks played at flyhalf and centre between 1999 and 2001 when he was part of the golden age of coach Nick Mallet.

In addition Braam is no novice to coaching and can boast a CV that includes coaching worldwide with the Investec International Rugby Academy and has also worked with the Wallabies as a specialist kicking coach.

Educated at the NKP Teachers College in Pretoria where he obtained a Teaching Degree, Braam will no doubt be a perfect fit in the school environment and this must be a major plus to his coaching at this level.

Braam loves a challenge, and in trying to revive the strong rugby tradition of St.Charles he will have his ability tested. However he is renowned for his incredible work ethic and he has a passion for inspiring young people to develop and realize their potential.

We look with interest to see how the input of Braam van Straaten will affect St. Charles College as they look to become serious contender in school rugby.
