Olympic Medal For Murray!

 

 

Murray McDougall from Kearsney College returns home this weekend after winning a bronze medal at the Youth Olympics in Singapore. He made the finals in all events and clocked some of his fastest times, placing thirdMurray_McDougall_swimming_-_Copy in the 100m relay, to win Kearsney's first ever medal at the Youth Olympics.  He also came 5th in the 50m backstroke, 7th in the 100m fly and 6th in the 100m boys' medley relay.

Rankings- The 25 Top Rugby Teams

The Western Cape produced some spectacular matches on the weekend with many going down to the final minutes of the game. The rankings look pretty stable now with the big Grey College machine on course to go unbeaten again this year. 

Chad le Clos scored again on Monday as South Africa took two more medals in the pool at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore, bringing the medal count to three. The Westville High School product won the 200m 16-08-2010-17-08-06_937264bindividual medley by nearly two full seconds in 2min 00.68sec to add a gold medal to the silver he claims in the 400m freestyle on Sunday.

Team South Africa wing their way into history when they head east for Singapore on Monday. The occasion is the inaugural Youth Olympics to be held between 14-26 August and the young South Africans will be part of a ground-breaking experience at this new multi-sport event.

Referee Punched in Schoolboy Match!

 

Another punch up in a school rugby match but this time it was a schoolboy who hit and hurt a referee in a hurt him in a U16 A match between Stellenberg and DF Malan. The boy has subsequently been removed from all contact sport.

Gimmies have tried gamely in the past few seasons to get back to winning ways but have had to play second fiddle to Boishaai and that trend looked like continuing this year although Gimmies found themselves ranked three places higher than their rivals this time.

SA U18 flyhalf Johan Goosen scored 18 points by kicking six penalties as the South Africans defeated England U18s 23-17 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday.DSC_4801 The hosts concluded a hat-trick of victories against England U18, France U18 (25-5) and the Namibians XVs (26-17) during their two-week Eastern Cape tour.The South Africans held a 9-7 half time lead thanks to three penalty kicks by the Free State Cheetahs flyhalf Goosen.

Schools Must Breed Soccer Stars!

THE SA Football Association has suggested that suburban schools that do not offer soccer as an extramural sport be forced to introduce it.

The South African national selectors on Thursday announced the SA Under-18 High Performance side that will play France U18 in an international friendly at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium in East London on Friday at 13h25. We will be doing live interactive commentary on this match so join us.

SARU Announces U18 High Performance Squad

Nineteen (19) players who were selected to the SA Schools team for 2010 have been included in the 32-man South African Under-18 High Performance Squad which will compete in a series of international friendlies later this month.
