First XI Cricket: The Powerade Performance Rankings: 30/09/2014

Steady progress by Hilton College, who enjoyed a hugely successful tour of Zimbabwe where they won the Ram Slam T20 Tournament, sees them climb into the Top 10 for the first time this year in the Powerade Performance First XI Rankings.

SA Schools Cricket Rankings 2014Hilton College went undefeated in Zimbabwe in a well run tournament hosted by the Zimbabwe powerhouse, St. John’s College Harare who lost out to Hilton in the finals. (A report on the tournament can be found with our partner website www.ssn.co.zw)

However at the top of the rankings it was more of the same from Waterkloof who extend their unbeaten run to 22 matches now although Menlopark came bitterly close in causing an upset when they pushed Waterkloof all the way only to lose out by a paltry six runs at the end. Janneman Malan was again in good form for Klofies with a quick fire 75 runs to help his team reach the competitive 230 run total set by Menlopark.

Paul Roos Gym embarked on a tour of Pretoria this past week and it is perhaps a tour they will want to try and draw out some positives from as the results certainly did not go their way. Loses to the likes of Garsfontein, Affies, Pretoria Boys High and St. Albans College has seen the Stellenbosch outfit slide down the rankings and they will be hoping to bounce back strongly when the Western Cape schools restart their season in earnest.

Glenwood, without their talented Dolphins player Andile Phehlukwayo, held on to an exciting win against Kearsney College, mainly thanks to an unbeaten century by Matthew Kirkam who also was very useful with the ball taking 3/31 to ensure a 26 runs victory.

This coming week we look forward to the annual Oppenheimar Week hosted by Maritzburg College which will bring together many of the country’s elite cricket teams for a week of high class action. If the weather is favourable we will be in for a treat as the teams look to score some valuable victories to climb upwards on the rankings.

This is how the rankings look and we invite you to send through your team’s results to ensure inclusion in the Powerade Performance Rankings.
