First XI Cricket: Powerade Performance Rankings: 14/10/14

During the school holidays around the country there was plenty of action taking place with the 55th Oppenheimar Week in KZN, Cape Schools Week and the Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge Finals sharing the lime-light and those results have had a significant bearing on the Powerade Performance Rankings.

Bradon Glover of St Stithians Boys College during the Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge National The 27 matches that were played during Oppenheimar Cricket Week in Pietermaritzburg produced a feast of schoolboy cricket which was punctuated with a healthy number of hundreds, tidy wicket-hauls and several exciting matches that went down to the wire.

However when the dust had settled it was the Gauteng Schools in the form of Affies, St.Albans College and KES that would leave KZN unbeaten. Their success has seen them move up the rankings with Affies camping just outside the Top 10 and the other two teams also well placed in the top 20.

The Coca-Cola T20 School Challenge Finals perhaps produced the biggest upset of the week when No.1 ranked Waterkloof failed to clinch the title as St.Stithians demolished them in the final match to notably close the gap between the two leading schools in South Africa.

Fergus Gray’s boys from St.Stithians put on a master class in the most explosive format of the game to beat all and sundry and finish the season as the top T20 team in the country.

Cape School’s Week also saw some impressive play although the week was effected by poor weather on the first day. However Grey High School was clearly the team to watch as the brushed aside all their opposition to remain undefeated for the week. This leaves them good value for their top five position and the leading team from the Eastern Cape as Hudson Park continues a downward spiral after promising so much at the start of the year.

This is how the Powerade Performance Rankings look for this week. Please send through your team’s results and any suggestions you may have to This email address is being protected from spambots.
