Cricket: Combined (U14, U15 & 1st XI) Rankings

As the curtain closes on what has been a great first term cricket season we take a look at how the rankings stand for the u14, u15 and 1st XI teams and try to gauge which schools are leading the sport in the SA Schools Combined Depth Rankings.

SA School Cricket Combined Rankings What is clear when we look at the rankings across the board is that Waterkloof have been able to maintain its dominance across the various age groups and this must point to them having some good structures in place as well as plenty of depth in the years to come. There is always going to be a challenge for a school to keep the First XI supplied with top players and it looks as if Waterkloof have a steady factory of talent that will feed into their premier team for years to come.

Many schools will be buoyed however by the performances of their u15 and u14 teams which have enjoyed better success than their First XI’s and they will be hoping that in a season or two their premier teams will be taking their place amongst the top schools.

Take for example a school like Northwood who are struggling to gain much traction on the 1st XI level this year but are amongst the leading teams in the u14 & u15 division. The success of their younger teams sees them command a far more respectable place on the Combined Depth Rankings and hints at a possible golden few years to come for the Knights.

KES is also looking to their younger players to help recapture their former glory days and although they have had mixed fortunes at the First Team level, their U15's and especially their u14's are in great shape to take the sport forward at one of the traditional cricketing powerhouses.

Hudson Park is another school which have performed consistently well across the board and find themselves at the dizzying heights of second place on the Combined Depth Rankings. However all three teams enjoy strong positions in the top 10 in each age group and they are deserved if unexpected top three contenders. Grey College is another school that appear to have a good balance of talent in their various teams as do Kingswood College who are enjoying some great sporting results this year.

There are perhaps one or two schools who either are too highly ranked or too low on the Combined Depth Rankings but generally it is a fair indicator as to the levels of strength the schools have amongst their ranks.
