This Week’s School Cricket from around South Africa:

KES continue to knock on the door of the No.1 spot as they once again put on a winning brand of cricket that included three back to back victories.

Way back in 2014, SA School Sports ran an article on a talented young cricketer who had just become the youngest cricketer ever to play against a senior international cricket side.

Hilton College slipped down from the top spot after taking two cricketing lessons from Joburg teams at the U15 Independent Schools Festival.

It is Hilton College that narrowly regains the number one position on this week’s Belgotex Sports First XI Rankings after a valuable win over a strong Clifton side.

Zack Momberg from KES once again was in great form when he came across the St. Benedicts bowlers who struggled to contain the run machine who made 108 runs in an overwhelming win.

After an unbeaten run, which now stretches across 13 matches, Rondebosch have edged their way into the leading position on this week’s Belgotex Sports First XI Top 50 Rankings.

Cricket: Rondebosch Raze SACS

Rondebosch have been threatening in the early parts of the 2018 season to stamp their authority on the game and prove they are the big contenders to finish the year as the leading team in the country.

This Week’s School Cricket from around South Africa:

A brilliant unbeaten 133 run Zack Momberg from KES help to fashion a big win over St. Andrews School and in so doing nudge the Johannesburg team into the top three of this week’s U15 Belgotex Sports Rankings.

Yet another half century by Daniel Smith helped to secure a victory for the unbeaten SACS team who rest on top of this week’s Belgotex Sports First XI Rankings.

There are some promising matches that take place this week as the cricket season gets into full swing with most schools participating.

Cricket: The First 1st XI Rankings for 2018

The opening Belgotex Sports First XI Cricket Rankings for 2018 is out and even though the season is still barely crawling most of the expected front runners have already risen to the top of the ladder to occupy familiar real estate.

Perfect days on the cricket field are rare especially in school cricket where records tend to stand for decades without being challenged.

The history books of Graeme College however were re-written this past weekend when their two opening bowlers put in a performance that saw the opposition bundled out for a mere 25 runs.

I asked Pietermaritzburg-based physiotherapist Neil van Biljon to chat about fast bowling as it pertains to the body as well as general pointers to guide schoolboy athletes in whatever sports code.

Another Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week has come and gone and as per usual the two most elite teams for any schoolboy to play for have been announced.

Two of the more fancied teams in this year’s Coca-Cola Khaya Majola week locked horns in the first encounter of the week at the Soweto Oval and it proved to be a confidence boosting win for KZN Inland.

Cricket: Pacemen Aplenty in KZN Midlands

Cricket history is littered with the tales of fast bowlers winning Test matches and more. You can score 1000 runs in a match but if you can't take 10 or 20 wickets - depending on the format of the game and other variables like declarations - you're not going to win many.
